The Illinois Senate is considering a bill that would threaten the safety of our communities. Senate Bill 50 will legalize silencers - the perfect accessory for a criminal who wants to conceal a crime.
If no one hears a gunshot, they can't duck before the next one, they don't know to call the cops, and emergency response times are slower. The only people who want silencers to be legal are the manufacturers who profit from them and criminals who want to use them.
There were 1,834 witness slips filed in opposition to SB 50, and the pressure is working. Because of our efforts, they cancelled the committee hearing this week. This is GREAT news, but the bill is FAR from dead. It will likely be heard in committee in two weeks (on February 8th). Let's strategize together on how to defeat it.
